Luca didn’t like the orders they had been given.

The events at Perron Manor had obviously scared the Council. Hell, it had scared Luca. But the way these men were reacting was far too aggressive, in his view.

Too reckless.

At least, the way some on the Council were reacting. Luca didn’t think they were unanimous in their views on the best way forward.

After a quick but delicious breakfast at a local cafe, the trio headed back over to the Cathedral of Assumption, this time with their bags in tow. Bishop Turnbull had made the necessary arrangements after his call last night, but Luca had still considered calling ahead to speak with Sister Maria, just to inform her. In the end, he’d decided against it. Her attitude towards them had soured quite quickly the previous day. Luca could understand the stress and worry she was going through—that everyone at the cathedral was going through—but her sudden change had been unexpected. To him, at least.

David had suggested that Sister Maria just wanted the problem resolved as soon as possible, to ensure her friend was free of the hell he was going through.

The trio turned a corner and the Cathedral of Assumption came into sight up ahead. As they moved closer, Luca turned to Sarah.

‘How are you feeling? Anything?’

Sarah narrowed her eyes and gave a slow nod. ‘I’m starting to feel a little sick again,’ she said. ‘It’s getting stronger the closer we get.’

‘That is something we need to figure out as well,’ David said. ‘The sickness isn’t something we’ve noticed before. It is new to Kutná Hora?’

‘That’s right,’ Sarah said. ‘To the cathedral, specifically.’

‘Well then, it clearly signifies something.’

‘Demonic forces?’ Luca suggested.

‘Possibly’ David replied, ‘though Perron Manor was full of demons.’ He again looked to Sarah. ‘Did you ever feel anything like this at the Manor?’

Sarah shook her head. ‘No, but everything was just too overwhelming there, like my senses were overloaded. It was hard to pinpoint anything.’

‘That could have been the presence of the Devil’s Doorway,’ Luca said. ‘And its connection had been strengthened because of the ritual. Something that powerful… is it any wonder you were overloaded?’

‘That makes sense,’ David said.

‘It is all speculation at the moment, though,’ Luca stated as they walked up the cobbled pathway to the building’s entrance. ‘Let’s figure out what’s going on here and focus on that.’

‘For what it’s worth, those ‘sensitivities’ are getting stronger,’ Sarah said as she brought a hand up to her stomach again. She nodded to the cathedral. ‘The closer we get, the sicker I feel.’

Luca stopped. ‘Are you sure you’re okay working in there?’ He pointed to the building. ‘If you are feeling ill…’

Sarah shook her head and raised her hand. ‘No, it’s fine. Honestly. It isn’t debilitating or anything. It’s just… not pleasant. But I’m okay to carry on. Don’t worry about me.’

‘Okay,’ Luca replied. ‘But the second that changes, I want you to let me know. We still have to be mindful that you could be susceptible to possession. With
