Luca didnât like the orders they had been given.
The events at Perron Manor had obviously scared the Council. Hell, it had scared Luca. But the way these men were reacting was far too aggressive, in his view.
Too reckless.
At least, the way some on the Council were reacting. Luca didnât think they were unanimous in their views on the best way forward.
After a quick but delicious breakfast at a local cafe, the trio headed back over to the Cathedral of Assumption, this time with their bags in tow. Bishop Turnbull had made the necessary arrangements after his call last night, but Luca had still considered calling ahead to speak with Sister Maria, just to inform her. In the end, heâd decided against it. Her attitude towards them had soured quite quickly the previous day. Luca could understand the stress and worry she was going throughâthat everyone at the cathedral was going throughâbut her sudden change had been unexpected. To him, at least.
David had suggested that Sister Maria just wanted the problem resolved as soon as possible, to ensure her friend was free of the hell he was going through.
The trio turned a corner and the Cathedral of Assumption came into sight up ahead. As they moved closer, Luca turned to Sarah.
âHow are you feeling? Anything?â
Sarah narrowed her eyes and gave a slow nod. âIâm starting to feel a little sick again,â she said. âItâs getting stronger the closer we get.â
âThat is something we need to figure out as well,â David said. âThe sickness isnât something weâve noticed before. It is new to Kutná Hora?â
âThatâs right,â Sarah said. âTo the cathedral, specifically.â
âWell then, it clearly signifies something.â
âDemonic forces?â Luca suggested.
âPossiblyâ David replied, âthough Perron Manor was full of demons.â He again looked to Sarah. âDid you ever feel anything like this at the Manor?â
Sarah shook her head. âNo, but everything was just too overwhelming there, like my senses were overloaded. It was hard to pinpoint anything.â
âThat could have been the presence of the Devilâs Doorway,â Luca said. âAnd its connection had been strengthened because of the ritual. Something that powerful⦠is it any wonder you were overloaded?â
âThat makes sense,â David said.
âIt is all speculation at the moment, though,â Luca stated as they walked up the cobbled pathway to the buildingâs entrance. âLetâs figure out whatâs going on here and focus on that.â
âFor what itâs worth, those âsensitivitiesâ are getting stronger,â Sarah said as she brought a hand up to her stomach again. She nodded to the cathedral. âThe closer we get, the sicker I feel.â
Luca stopped. âAre you sure youâre okay working in there?â He pointed to the building. âIf you are feeling illâ¦â
Sarah shook her head and raised her hand. âNo, itâs fine. Honestly. It isnât debilitating or anything. Itâs just⦠not pleasant. But Iâm okay to carry on. Donât worry about me.â
âOkay,â Luca replied. âBut the second that changes, I want you to let me know. We still have to be mindful that you could be susceptible to possession. With
